Epiphone Les Paul Review

The Epiphone Les Paul Standard guitar is a low-cost version of the more expensive and high-quality Gibson Les Paul guitar, but usually sells for around $500. Because of its similarities to the Gibson guitar, and its low price, it is a very popular guitar. 

Epiphone is a division of Gibson Musical Instruments. Much of the hardware used on this guitar is not the same as the Gibson model. But from first glance, it’s hard to tell the difference. This guitar is heavy, and feels just like the real Les Paul. The neck feels smooth and has nice action. The 2 Humbuckers offer nice, muddy tones, which sound nearly as good as the Gibson model. But this is probably where the guitar deviates the most from the Gibson model. The Epiphone Les Paul does not use Gibson pick-ups. However, the sound is pretty close. It also has an amazing finish, quite a stunning guitar.

I have heard of complaints with the machine heads and volume/pickup knobs. Some people have reported that they do not make a good connection, or have even fallen off. I didn’t experience any problems, and I doubt most people do. But be aware of this. 

It is quite popular for guitarists to purchase the Epiphone Les Paul, and replace the hardware with Gibson parts, still saving hundreds of dollars in the process. Even if you don’t do this, it’s a great guitar for beginners, and for those guitarists who can’t afford Gibson Les Paul.
